Use A Trailer (10/09/08)

If you need to move outsize loads around by car, it's usually better to put them on a trailer rather than a roofrack (this may not be practicable for unwieldy items, such as ladders).  Trailers - particularly lightweight aluminum ones - are more aerodynamic: you'll get through up to 15 percent less fuel than if you used a roofrack. (Joanna Yarrow)
