Expensive Luxury (10/18/08)
Using a vehicle's air conditioner can increase fuel consumption by more than 20 percent in city driving. Unless the weather's unbearably hot, use the flow-through ventilation on your car instead. Opening the windows is another option, but only at speeds below 45mph. Above this speed, open windows not only inconvenience toupee wearers but also cause aerodynamic drag, reducing fuel efficiency.
